Interpreter Roster: Spoken Language, Health Care
The Spoken Language Health Care Interpreter Roster, maintained by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), is a statewide, voluntary roster of spoken-language interpreters. Its primary goal is to make sure that all Minnesotans have equal access to health care services, regardless of their primary language.
Key Features:
-
Interpreter Listings: The roster provides a searchable database where consumers and health care providers can find interpreters based on language proficiency and geographic location. Each listing includes the interpreter's name, contact information, and roster expiration date. Interpreters may also specify their areas of health care expertise and any affiliated agencies.
-
Voluntary Participation: Participation in the roster is voluntary for interpreters. However, some insurance providers may require interpreters to be listed on the roster to bill for services.
-
Recent Updates: As of August 7, 2024, MDH has transitioned the roster to a new electronic licensing system to streamline the management, updating, and renewal of interpreter registrations. Interpreters currently on the roster have been notified via email to set up their accounts in the new system.
For Interpreters:
-
Registration and Account Management: Interpreters can manage their registration and update their information through the new MDH Licensing System: Health Care Interpreter Roster.
-
Resources: MDH provides various resources to support interpreters, including announcements, updates, and legislative information.
For Health Care Providers and Consumers:
-
Finding an Interpreter: The roster can be searched to find qualified interpreters suitable for specific health care settings and patient needs.
-
Contact Information: For assistance or inquiries, contact the Health Occupations Program at 651-201-4200 or via email at health.hci@state.mn.us.
This roster is a valuable tool to promote effective communication between health care providers and patients with limited English proficiency, ensuring equitable access to health services across Minnesota.
